State PUC Registration& Licensing.

Federal compliance is only half the obligation set. State public utility commissions impose their own registration, certification, reporting, and fee requirements — and they are where providers most often discover an unregistered footprint. EquiTel maps the footprint, quantifies the exposure, and sets the remediation strategy. State filings are executed by STIRSHAKEN.AI.

State Registration Questions.

Do I need state registration in addition to FCC compliance?

Frequently, yes. Many states require registration, certification, or notice before a provider offers intrastate service, and several impose their own reporting, fees, or annual filings. Federal compliance does not satisfy state obligations.

Which states require registration?

Requirements vary substantially by state and by service type — interconnected VoIP, resold telecommunications, and facilities-based service are often treated differently. The practical approach is a footprint review against where you actually have customers.

We have been serving customers in states where we never registered.

This is a common remediation matter. The sequence is: establish the footprint, evaluate exposure state by state, prioritize, and register with a consistent position across jurisdictions.
