STIR/SHAKEN Compliance & Remediation

STIR/SHAKEN Registration,Remediation & Recovery.

STIR/SHAKEN compliance decides how carriers, clients, and regulators treat your voice traffic. EquiTel diagnoses why an implementation is failing, corrects attestation practice, and recovers voice reputation once it has been damaged. Registration and onboarding filings are executed by STIRSHAKEN.AI — AI-powered, backed by humans — on the position EquiTel establishes.

STIR/SHAKEN Compliance Support.

Registration for providers establishing authentication, and remediation for providers whose implementation is being questioned.

Eligibility & Readiness Position

What must be true before registration will hold.

Registration fails when the records beneath it disagree. EquiTel establishes the factual position — eligibility, entity records, and the alignment between FCC, RMD, and 499 data — so onboarding does not fail for reasons unrelated to voice. The registration itself is filed by STIRSHAKEN.AI.

STIR/SHAKEN Remediation & Correction

When attestation, tokens, or certificates are failing.

STIR/SHAKEN implementation fixes require both technical and regulatory judgment. We identify why signing is failing or attestation is being challenged, correct the practice, and produce the documentation carriers ask for next.

  • STI-PA troubleshooting
  • SPC token issues
  • Certificate and signing failures
  • Attestation practice correction
  • Caller ID authentication issues

Voice Reputation Recovery

Restore confidence after traffic has been flagged.

Once traffic has been flagged, technical compliance alone will not restore standing. Recovery requires evidence, corrective action, and a communication strategy carriers accept.

  • Traffic and analytics review
  • Traceback correlation
  • Remediation plan
  • Carrier communication
  • Reputation restoration

STIR/SHAKEN Questions.

What is STIR/SHAKEN?

STIR/SHAKEN is the caller ID authentication framework that lets voice service providers cryptographically sign the calls they originate so downstream carriers can verify the calling number was legitimately used. A provider obtains an SPC token from the STI-PA, acquires a certificate, and signs calls with an attestation level of A, B, or C depending on how well it knows the caller and the number.

Do I need STIR/SHAKEN if I am a small VoIP provider?

Most voice service providers are subject to caller ID authentication obligations or to the robocall mitigation requirements that accompany them. Provider size affects which path applies, not whether an obligation exists. If you originate, terminate, or transit voice traffic, you should confirm your position in writing rather than assume an exemption.

What is an SPC token and why does mine not work?

The Service Provider Code token is issued by the STI-PA and authorizes your company to obtain signing certificates. Tokens commonly fail because the underlying OCN, RMD filing, or 499 filer ID is out of date, because the company record changed after issuance, or because a renewal lapsed. The fix is almost always upstream of the token itself.

How do I fix STIR/SHAKEN attestation problems?

Attestation problems usually trace to how customers are onboarded and how number ownership is verified, not to the signing infrastructure. EquiTel reviews the traffic, the onboarding record, and the attestation logic together, then corrects the practice and documents the change so carriers can see it.
